Description

Matt Reeves' "The Batman" is far from the first Batman movie to go for a dark and gritty tone, but it introduces the most fearsome version yet of a typically campy villain: The Riddler. Paul Dano portrays Edward Nashton as a politically motivated serial killer, but the Batman stories before it have tended to go in different directions.

The versions of The Riddler we've seen in the comics — as well as the onscreen incarnations played by Jim Carrey, Frank Gorshin, and others — differ significantly from Dano's in many ways. If you want to know how exactly Dano made the character his own, stick around to learn exactly how The Riddler from "The Batman" is different from the others.
