Movie trailers hold a certain bit of influence over many moviegoers. For some, it’s the first look at a movie they may have never heard of. For others, it’s what determines where their hard earned money goes. For many though, they are a fun bit of consumable media that can often be seen as works of art in their own right. Trailers are meticulously crafted pieces of advertising that have to somehow reel you, the audience, into going to see the movie. Film studios already have so much work going on with the movie itself so they actually hire marketing companies to make these trailers. And making a trailer isn’t like making a short film in your university film studies course, where you can do the whole project with a partner. It can take months or years to get a two-minute trailer ready and can take up to 16 people working on it, not to mention multiple firms. And that’s just the production side of things. The companies have an array of tactics they can use that will help sway you into thinking this is a good movie. Because no matter how bad the reviews are, if the trailer's got people buzzing, that will likely secure a decent box office haul for the film. So no pressure on making those trailers, right? The following video will dive into what it takes to make a trailer, why they’re actually called “trailers” and some of the technics you’ll see in trailers today. Of course, it’s a rapidly changing industry, so prepare to see new trends in trailer making in the years to come!
