Given how many movies are released every year, it’s only natural that every so often, movies with similar plots are released. There’s only so many different stories to tell, of course there’s going to be overlap! But the really strange thing is when movies with identical plots or themes are released in the exact same year, sometimes only a few months apart from one another. Sometimes this can be a good or bad thing. It can either draw more attention to your movie and get more people to turn out to see it, but the risk is if your movie is the worst of the two, then you’re never going to hear the end of it!
There are famous instances where movies with very similar plots were released at the same time. Some of the big ones include A Bug’s Life and Antz in 1998, Volcano and Dante’s Peak in 1997, Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached in 2011, etc. The list goes on and today’s video is all about examining those movies with similar plots and deciding which one came out on top.
