Hollywood loves a good long-take. Daredevil, Inception, Extraction, The Avengers, Children of Men, Spectre, The Kingsmen, Creed, 1917, Spider-Man 3, Oldboy, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and The Adventures of Tintin are all examples of some of the best flicks featuring long-takes I have ever seen. Directors like Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, Sam Raimi, Joss Whedon, Matthew Vaughn and more love to use this type of camera trick to really pull you into the action. This is one of the best ways to make you feel every hit and bone break that our heroes go through. We get to see just how amazing the choreography is when the camera is just locked in on the important stuff. These scenes include alien invasion scenes, revolving gravity dream sequences, hallway takedowns, the formation of Sandman, a showdown between Brad Pitt or Bruce Lee and an animated chase thanks to the combined strength of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. This type of scene has been a staple of Hollywood for decades but it has been recently popularized as one of the most popular ways to capture an action scene. Frankly, I’m not sure why they don’t just use a tracking shot for literally every action sequence ever filmed. It is a brilliant way to go. If you really want to show the improvisational violence that your protagonist excels at while brutally taking on dozens of enemies together, this is the way to go. It also really gets across just how exhausting these sequences would be in real life.

So which of these tracking shots are the best? Let’s find out! Don’t forget to like, subscribe and share for more from Screen Rant!
