15 Of The Longest Running Cartoons Of All Time

In the world of animated television, it can be hard to be allowed to stay on air for all that long. On top of simple things like ratings, merch sales and the like, there are hordes of artists and writers that need to be paid, and production time per episode tends to last longer than in most live-action shows. As a result, we often find that shows we otherwise love get cut down in their prime with an embarrassingly low number of episodes to show for it, whether they were episodic or building up to tell a larger story that will now never see a true, satisfying ending.

But then there are the other ones. The long runners. The shows that span not just years and seasons, but decades. The shows that become so ingrained in modern pop culture that they permeate the world beyond the screens and refuse to die out, even when the public starts thinking that maybe they probably should have done so ages ago.. Whether it's simply because of brand recognition, easier and faster production for shorter episodes or because they actually do manage to keep their finger on the pulse of society and continue to bring the quality that is expected of them, these cartoons climb to hundreds upon hundreds of episodes and prove themselves to be animation mainstays.
