If you have been on either the internet, social media or YouTube (including our very own channel) the word ‘Director’s Cut’ (or a particular Director’s Cut) would be all too familiar to you. It’s almost an inescapable term right now with it being plastered all over the internet. But of course, Director’s Cuts are by no means a new thing, and many auteurs who are unhappy with the theatrical version or want to add in material they couldn’t often find themselves turning to a Director’s Cut. Sometimes, these versions of movies can be significant improvements - making a good film better or perhaps redeeming a previously bad movie. Other times, they can actually be even worse - either convoluting a good film or making a nonsensical bad film more awful than before. For this Director’s Cuts will always be an enigma and will always attract attention and we will certainly have cries for more Director’s Cuts for movies in the near future.
