The Meg was one of the surprise hits of the 2018 summer season, making a positive splash at domestic and international box offices. The film stars Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, a deep sea rescue diver who ends up face to face with the previously thought extinct shark known as Megalodon. If you thought the Great White was a big animal, then the Meg makes it look like a puppy. While everyone was impressed at the size of this deep sea monster and how fun the movie was, we started theorizing about the movie. The big one we thought of was what if the sharks in the meg are not living fossils, but actually engineered sharks that were brought back to life and set lose in the wild, not unlike the science behind the Jurassic Park films. This has us dreaming of a Jurassic/Meg crossover. Another theory was that Jason Statham’s Jonas Taylor may have actually been crazy, as his claim of a deep sea monster, namely the meg, was responsible for the submarine attack at the start of the film actually makes no sense and brings into question his sanity. His shrink does confirm that the episode was fabricated and thanks to us knowing that the meg couldn’t have been at the submarine attack, it leads us to think that Jonas was a bit dylusional. We also began wondering about the fate of Rainn Wilson’s character, who was unceremoniously eaten by the meg in the film. While all that was left behind was a hand, we began wondering if his character could have survived his encounter with the shark, based on where the bite happened and how big the shark’s jaws actually are. On a similar note, how did Pippin the dog survive being eaten by the meg? We have some ideas on that. But more interesting, we dive into the possibility of there being even more megalodon sharks waiting in the ocean depths, due to the potential breeding habits of the shark.
