Scott Lang left for an important subatomic mission in the quantum realm when Thanos snapped his fingers, effectively wiping out half the population on earth. Unfortunately for Lang, this included Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne and Hope Van Dyne- basically the three people in the world besides Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange (and his future self) who could have pulled him back out of the quantum world. Surprisingly, this did not stop but merely impeded his return. A rat scurried across the controls in his van just in time to bring Scott back without any external Avenger help, and the rest of what we know is (Marvel) cinematic history. Five years had elapsed in the meantime on a desolate, post-apocalyptic earth. How dramatically different (or similar) was the relative passage of time for Scott in the mysterious, unfathomable quantum realm?

The quantum realm is quite unlike...any dimension one could ever think of. It is a boundless plane of existence for all kinds of dimensions, so much so that concepts like time, or quantum mechanics are just parts of the labyrinth of pure possibilities in the quantum realm. It's like a space where there are no rules and those who can get a hang of its logistics can essentially make the rules. The Avengers used the Quantum Realm as a time travel machine, but that's only one of the myriad of things that it can come in handy for. Our eyes are now peeled on how the MCU will take this concept forward and use it to potentially create a multiverse.
