Description

When Aaron Blabey didn’t want to give up and live a life as a graphic designer at a marketing company he took a rather productive walk that resulted in a series of comics featuring anthropomorphic animals that would not only become the big hits that had eluded him but also become a weekend winning Dreamworks film. In fact, when he pitched the idea to his publisher, she said that’s exactly what it sounded like. While it shares some commonality with other Dreamworks films like Megamind where a bad guy finds their inner goodness, there's plenty to make The Good Guys stand out in a crowded field of animated kids movie. Following the example set with Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse, director Pierre Parifel looked to flatten the ‘3D’ look inherent in computer animation as well as smoothing out all the details that animated plugins and tools have been developing over the years to make CGI more photorealistic. Something as simple as Mr Wolf growling had to be completely reconfigured special for this movie. It also had the challenge of adapting kid unfriendly influences like Tarantino, Besson, Soderberg, and Guy Ritchie into a very kid friendly caper movie in the spirit of Oceans 11. Even the music was created to be reminiscent of neo-noir classics. What did you think stood out about The Bad Guys?
