HBO’s television series “Game of Thrones” has been gracing our television screens with chaos, madness, and jaw-dropping storylines for over a decade. It’s one of the most successful television series of this generation and it has the awards and recognition to prove it. But the books have a much longer history, going back a quarter of a century. They also have much more content, clocking in at more than 4,000 pages of story. The fandom and history of the GoT universe runs deep and has affected the way the entire industry has decided what is and is not acceptable on TV.

Obviously, with the core differences of length and time, not everything can match up perfectly between the screen and the page. There are definitely good and bad changes. Some character descriptions in the books are unrecognizable on screen. Some characters from the books are completely omitted, while others are added to create entirely new storylines. Some names are changed, and some things are altered just for the sake of clarity. And, honestly? Don’t even get us started on when Sansa married Ramsay.
