The Batman is so much more than a comic book character

We all know Batman’s origin. We’ve seen Bruce Wayne orphaned countless times in movies, comics and cartoons. But behind the scenes, Batman’s origins are just as compelling. From Christopher Nolan’s writing process, to Tim Burton’s battles for his artistic vision, to Batman’s contentious creation in 1939. In this documentary, we will outline why we think some Batman adaptations are more successful than others.

Batman is a beloved figure, but would he be the same without Bruce Wayne? In order to create a great Batman story, you need to truly understand both sides of this double identity. It might even help to recreate it. Some of the most notable works in the Batman oeuvre were created through the clash (and collaboration) of two very different personalities.

In this video, we dive into Batman’s long history to find out what drove the artists that would go on to define him, and we go behind the scenes of some of the greatest Batman Stories ever told. How did a real life fistfight lead Jack Nicholson to play the Joker? Why did Bruce Wayne travel to Tibet in Batman Begins? Was Bob Kane really the sole creator of Batman? All these questions and more are answered in the full video.
