How Doctor Strange 2 Tricked Fans

To say that expectations were high for the Master of the Mystical Arts’ second outing in a solo movie would be mother of an understatement. Reality itself had taken more than a few to the chin since the Avengers went skipping through time to undo Thanos’ victory. Loki discovered that He Who Remains had been desperately trying to prevent more hims from coming and destroying the multiverse only to have an alternate version of himself as a herself stab the guy for his efforts. Wanda literally tried to live in a sitcom and cast an entire town against their will. And then Strange was drafted to put Peter Parker’s alter-ego back in the bag. We had every reason to think that this was all building up to a movie that was going to be the culmination of all these reality bending events. Not only that, but with it being the Mutliverse like we just saw in Spider-man No Way Home that also meant that we could see a parade of variants of old and new characters including casting for movies that never got mad and fan casting for movies that are already in pre production. In some ways the advertising was purposefully misleading to preserve the mystery of the movie, and some of the deception was Mephisto…that is to say the fans creating an expectation out of pure hope and speculation. Regardless, the new movie wasn’t what some had been led to believe. What ways did you think that Doctor Strange tricked you?
