To be brutally honest- the Fantastic Beasts series hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. That is in part down to the immense set by its predecessor, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like it has tapped into its full potential- especially as the material it is based on is so good. One of the reasons it arguably isn’t doing so well, is that it has somewhat underutilized their primary antagonist Grindelwald. Grindelwald is known to be one of the biggest and baddest Dark Wizards of all time but that has yet to really resonate on screen and the character has somewhat fallen flat so far. The series have recently recast the role, with the great Mads Mikkelsen stepping in for Johnny Depp, but while Mikkelsen is certainly a phenomenal actor, the issue hasn’t necessarily been with the performance. In fact, there are several other issues that the series needs to address with the character other than casting. But, if the series play their cards right they could really change their fortunes and meet their full potential.

In this video we will take a look at some of the ways Grindelwald hasn’t lived up to the hype, what the issues are and how the series can make it right. From comparing him to other villains in the Harry Potter universe, to story issues and a potential untapped back story- lets apparate back in time and to the wonderful, wizarding world of Fantastic Beasts.
