How Marvel's Avengers Movies Impacted The Visual Effects World

For the past decade and change the Marvel Cinematic Universe has provided audiences worldwide with some of the era’s most memorable and jaw-dropping visual effects. From the fight on Titan, to the saga of Skinny Steve, to the Purple-finger-snapping-menace himself, the franchise has never been short on showstopping visuals. But that’s not the whole story: behind the scenes it took dozens of teams and vendors all over the world working in collaboration with one another to make these dreams manifest in reality.

From Zbrush sketches to mo-cap to a literal live raccoon, there’s really no depths the MCU hasn’t plumbed and no envelope they haven’t pushed in their titanic effort to reinvent the superhero genre for a new generation of fans. It’d be impossible to list every single change, improvement, or just plain insanely gripping visual moment across the nearly two-dozen installments in the franchise, but we’ve put together a quick survey that jumps in-depth on just a couple of the series most iconic-- and important-- moments in order to show just how much the MCU has done to change the world of Visual Effects.

So grab your shield, put down your trash panda, and ready your hulk (oh, and try not to snap your fingers, if possible) because it’s time for a wild ride down the rollercoaster of visions, villains, victories, and visible excellence that comprises the VFX side of the MCU.
