The rumble in the jungle is set. Legendary’s anime series Skull Island is destined to crack open the island’s history with canon, new or old. Speculation flies whether Godzilla vs. Kong will dovetail Skull Island. Or will Kong: Skull Island segue with the cartoon? What’s certain is the host of vile monsters dogging Kong’s every step. The Titan’s role may be more complicated than meets the eye. Godzilla rampaging Apex facilities. Mecha-Godzilla waiting in the wings, monitored by Ren Serizawa, Dr. Ishirō Serizawa’s son, from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. And Kong’s ancestral battle axe. Skull Island not only shall give us an unobstructed view of Kong’s home but it will surely position Kong in other relevant franchises. At least we hope so. Legendary Television and Netflix also announced the creation of a Lara Croft and Pacific Rim anime series to boot. Both are apt for King Kong’s temperament, especially Pacific Rim: The Black. Giant Jaegers and Kaiju to grapple with makes a lot of sense. Skull Island’s official synopsis says that a group of humans are shipwrecked on the island and fight for survival and escape. Perhaps, the Hollow Earth backstory will be a large feature to the animated series. It is featured in the trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong and highly likely to rear it’s head in Skull Island. With so much raw material to clutch onto Skull Island is about to shake-up the growing Monsterverse that is poised to take-up the mantle that the MCU is retiring.
