Shazam! Fury of the Gods: 15 Easter Eggs You Missed

It’s time to return to Rock of Eternity and catch up with Shazamily as Shazam! Fury of the Gods has hit theaters. Billy Batson, Freddie Freedman, and the entire foster family have returned. They’re still not facing down Mister Mind and whatever he had planned with the sinister Dr SIvana. We may never know what will happen there. Instead they face the Daughters of Atlas who seem less than please about the removal of magic from the world. WIth a publishing history that turned DC Comics from angry rivals to eager stewarts, the original Captain Marvel and his family have a rich history and deep cuts to pull from. Whether it’s the mystery of Nero’s fiddle or the resource bonanza that is the Historama, Fury of the Gods digs deep. David F Sandberg returns to direct the sequel and has brought his horror sensibilities with him. Not just in the way that he adds menace and fear alongside lighter moments, but with how deeply referential horror movies can be. There are nods to groundbreaking Italian horror directors hidden within the signage and director cameos in unexpected places. With the DC cinematic universe heading towards a hard reboot Shazam! Fury of the Gods may be one of our last glimpses at what the DCEU might have been, but with appearances by Amanda Waller's Task Force X, it might also hint at things that may carry over.
