Is Into The Spider-Verse's Spider-Man a future version of Tobey Maguire's Spidey? Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/ho3Hg6

Anticipation is high for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. We’ve got the first Spider-Man feature that has Miles Morales in a starring role, plus the addition of different Spider-Men/Women from different universes, including the original Spider-Man Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen and even Spider-Ham. The beautiful animation and fast-paced, comic book inspired visuals give it a unique style and vibe and the heartfelt humor is on point, no doubt thanks to the creative involvement of Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.

And if you’re at all familiar with the work of Lord and Miller (The 21 Jump Street movies, The Lego Movie), you’ll know they have a tendency to lean on meta humor and inventive, intelligent references and visuals. With that in mind, it’s not too hard to imagine they’ve found a way to honor past iterations of Spider-Man. The new trailer suggests they might be referencing one iteration in particular: Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi trilogy.

There are a couple of specific visual cues in the trailer you might recognize from Maguire’s outings, such as the train sequence and the upside down kiss. There’s also the fact that Into the Spider-Verse’s version of Peter is close to forty and feeling disillusioned about being Spider-Man. Considering where the events of Spider-Man 3 left the character, it’s not a stretch to suggest Peter has grown depressed and apathetic in his later years.

Join us as we take a deep dive into this theory to determine whether or not it’s feasible or if it’s just completely bonkers.
