Andor Season 2 reveals that there were two Ghorman Massacres—the first, known as the Tarkin Massacre, saw Grand Moff Tarkin crush peaceful protesters with his cruiser in 19BBY, while the second, deadlier massacre in 2BBY was a calculated trap by the Empire to justify mining Ghorman for Death Star resources. Orchestrated by Dedra Meero and culminating in the death of Syril Karn, the event radicalized Mon Mothma and became the rallying cry that helped ignite the Rebel Alliance.
