Description

The Batman was so effing good, and director Matt Reeves stuffed it so full of references, easter eggs and symbolism, I’m surprised we fit it into one video. And now that its available on streaming in glorious 4K, we could scrutinize every frame.

Like did you see the Riddler early on in the film spying on the Iceberg lounge? Did you know that in addition to the obvious nods to David Fincher’s Se7en, there are also a bunch of references to the original Halloween and several to the works of surrealist avant garde director David Lynch?

And just like The Riddler, Matt Reeves put in several puzzles for the viewer to figure out on their own, like the license plate of the car that literally crashes the funeral. And Robert Pattinson showed that he’s more than just a vampire, he’s also a bat, and Reeves put in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it tribute to the Robert Pattinson movie that inspired him to cast the pale wonder for the role of a younger, more traumatized Bruce Wayne.

And if you didn’t live through the 60s, then you probably totally missed all the inspirations for The Riddler in the Zodiac killer. Whether its cyphers, costumes, looks, or greeting cards, the Zodiac inspiration is very present in this film, as well as nods to David Fincher’s movie Zodiac.
