The John Wick Scene That Was Almost Going To Be Removed

Although he's relatively a newcomer to the action genre, John Wick (as played by Keanu Reeves) has shown that he can go toe to toe with the likes of John Rambo and the Terminator. Thanks to Reeves' breath taking portrayal of the analytical assassin, as well as the clever world building with The Continental and finally, the stunning cinematography and choreography.

Story-wise, this whole saga started with a senseless act of a gang of thugs taking the life of the one thing John Wick had going for him, his dog Daisy. The loss of his pet sent Baba Yaga (or as we would call him, “The Boogeyman”) on a journey of revenge. However, there was a time in the film's production when such a plot point was not going to happen. The producers thought the idea was not the best option and wished for it to be removed.

“Why?” you may be asking. Why would they wish to remove a key element to the character's emotional core and the film success? Fortunately, the directors and screenwriter thought the same thing and fought back, winning the argument and retained it for the audience to find sympathy with Wick, following him across a trilogy of movies that's due to carry on for a fourth instalment in 2022.

We will also look into the real life inspiration for that scene, as well as a Navy SEAL that could be the template for John Wick himself.
