Thunderbolts: What Worked & What Didn’t

Thunderbolts brings together Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent, and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes in a chaotic MCU ensemble that struggles with tonal whiplash, underused characters like Taskmaster, and a wildly overpowered Sentry (played by Lewis Pullman). While Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Valentina de Fontaine descends into cartoonish villainy, the film raises questions about Marvel’s direction and the viability of the Thunderbolts as the new Avengers.
