Watch This Before You See Free Guy

If you're not familiar with the premise of the new Ryan Reynolds action comedy Free Guy, it's about a non-playable character in a Grand Theft Auto-style video game who becomes aware of what he is. It's a pretty wild premise, but everyone involved, including Reynolds, the rest of the cast, the director, and the writer seem more than game to follow it wherever it takes them. And from the trailers, that place looks to be total mayhem.

Like so many other movies slated for release in 2020, Free Guy's release was delayed for more than a year. But with its August 13, 2021 opening in theaters imminent, here's a look at all you need to know. Watch this before you see Free Guy.
