The Addams Family has been creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky in the world of entertainment for decades. From the original New Yorker comic, to the TV show, to the movies and even the classic Halloween theme song, Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Thing, Lurch, and Cousin Itt are arguably one of the most universally loved families in the world. It’s been years since we’ve had a live-action Addams family adaptation. No one has dared an attempt to top “The Addams Family” and “Addams Family Values.” But Tim Burton’s new hit Netflix series, “Wednesday,” has taken over the Addams family universe.

The biggest difference between the family’s history and what we’re seeing now on Netflix is Wednesday's age, as well as her many new personality quirks and interests. Unlike the show, she’s separated from her family, and this lets her get closer to new characters created by the show– and there’s tons of them. There’s enough for Wednesday to dance between platonic and romantic relationships, sometimes literally. There are also the matters of the family’s ethnicity, the way Gomez and Morticia met, and the show’s supernatural elements. Thing’s character also has much more depth in Netflix’s “Wednesday,” even if he’s still just a severed hand.

Netflix’s “Wednesday” holds true to the core of the Addams family, but it’s not surprising that the show made so many significant shifts. Now that we’ve all obsessed over our favorite dark child at Nevermore Academy for eight episodes, let’s explore 15 of the biggest creative changes that “Wednesday” utilized in making the show the success that it is.
