What Makes Da 5 Bloods A Different Vietnam War Movie?

This war movie was first conceived all the way back in 2013, but it really couldn’t have been released at a better time! Even though “Da 5 Bloods” is about the Vietnam War, it’s surprisingly relevant to current events and the Black Lives Matter movement. According to director Spike Lee, there simply aren’t enough films that provide an accurate depiction of what life was life for African American soldiers, both on the battlefield and once they returned home. It has a great cast, including stars Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, and Isiah Whitlock Jr, and you won’t find any CGI de-aging here. . .mostly because Netflix wouldn’t pay for it. But while special effects aren’t the focus in this film, a lot of work went into the cinematography to help enhance its emotional impact. Real veterans were consulted at length, and a military advisor was on set. . .even when said set was located in a jungle with triple digit temperatures!

What do you think about this film and the way it ties into current historical happenings? Do you think it will remain a timeless classic or will it fade into obscurity?
