Why The Magistrate From Mandalorian Chapter 13 Looks So Familiar

Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian was easily one of the most important episodes in the show's run so far. Fans have been waiting to see the fan-favorite Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano appear in live action ever since Rosario Dawson was cast in the role, and her arrival didn't disappoint. On top of that, the episode finally revealed the Child's real name.

There's so much big-picture stuff going on in Chapter 13 that it's easy to lose track of what the episode's self-contained story is even about. After all, not only does Ahsoka Tano turn down training Grogu and send the Mandalorian to the yet-to-be-seen planet of Tython, but it's also revealed that Ahsoka is hunting the legendary Star Wars Expanded Universe character and Rebels villain, General Thrawn.

However, there is a story in this chapter that is contained to just this episode — and it's a good one, too. Essentially, Ahsoka and the Mandalorian team up to take down the evil magistrate, Morgan Elsbeth, on the forest planet of Corvus. And while Tano battles Elsbeth, Mando faces off against her lackey, Lang, played by the '80s action icon Michael Biehn.

A lot of people will recognize Biehn from playing Kyle Reese in The Terminator, and Hicks in Aliens. But you might also recognize Diana Lee Inosanto, who's also worked on some of the biggest franchises in recent memory albeit not usually as a principal actor.

It may take nearly the entire length of the episode to build up to, but one of the best scenes in the whole episode involves a fight between Ahsoka and Morgan. And while your brain might have been working overtime to remember where you recognize Diana Lee Inosanto from, you were probably also noticing how solid her fight choreography is. And there's a good reason why you should be impressed by Inosanto's prowess with a weapon because she's an experienced stunt performer and coordinator.

Of course, while you may not be able to pick Inosanto out of a lineup, it's almost a given that you'll recognize her stunt work. Some of the movies she has worked on include Wild Wild West and Mystery Men. And if you're a Star Trek fan, you might already know that Inosanto was Linda Park's stunt double for a few episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise, including the fan-favorite, "In a Mirror, Darkly" two-parter.

Much more recently, Inosanto acted as martial arts trainer to Rosa Salazar in James Cameron's sleeper hit, Alita: Battle Angel. But if there's one place you're much more likely to recognize Insoanto's stunt work from, it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Inosanto was Sarah Michelle Gellar's stunt double during the first season of the show, and there's a pretty solid chance that, if you've seen any of Buffy's fight scenes during that season, you've already seen Inosanto in action. And while you may not have seen her actual face all that often in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you'll likely feel her influence on the series' distinctive action sequences.

But Diana Lee Inosanto has done more than just stunt work, as her appearance in The Mandalorian was far from her first acting role. Indeed, as the daughter of martial artist Dan Inosanto and the goddaughter of Bruce Lee, it's hardly much of a surprise that Inosanto can both pull off a stunt and act up a storm.

If you want to go all the way back, there is a chance you recognize a very young Inosanto performing stunts in Pamela Anderson's so-bad-it's-good action film Barb Wire, or even appearing as one of the innocent Eloi that Guy Pearce's character encounters in the 2002 remake of The Time Machine.

In 2008, she also wrote, directed, and starred in The Sensei, a martial arts story set in the midst of the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. Simply put, if you're a fan of action movies, comic book movies, science fiction, or horror whether you realized it or not, you probably have seen Diana Lee Inosanto before, long before she duked it out with Rosario Dawson on The Mandalorian.
