Successful franchises can now last for decades. Like in Harry Potter, audiences get to see young actors grow up with their characters. Writers are able to create situations out of their aging that wouldn’t have been possible if the character hadn’t grown up. Take Ian Gallagher from Shameless for example, over the twelve seasons of the series, his character grows up from being a pre teen all the way to joining the army and getting married. A character glow up that would never happen if he was the same young boy he was at the start of the series. Aging is inevitable and as much as we want the kids from Shazam to stay the same age forever so we can continue getting more of the same content we love, we have to expect to see them grow up at some point.
Some child stars like Natalie Portman have been able to launch phenomenal careers after achieving their credits while young, earning them the highest of honors like Academy Awards. While others like Shia Labeouf challenge what it means to be a child star and deeply reflect on the pain and trauma caused by becoming thrown into the spotlight at such a young age like he did when he was filming Even Stevens. An experience he wrote about in his film Honey Boy.
Regardless, we all love to watch our favorite characters grow older and wiser, so compiled here is a list of 10 of our favorite actors that we watched grow up on screen from series like Star Wars to Stranger Things.
