F9: Every Fast & Furious Easter Egg Explained

After waiting through all of 2020, it was such a relief to FINALLY be able to see F9 on the big screen. The film took us to new heights while also taking us to the beginning of the franchise. While Tej and Roman were discussing whether or not they were invincible before cruising through the atmosphere into space, Dom was facing his past. His equally large brother, Jakob Toretto, came back into his life with a plot to end the world and enough skill to see it through. The film is full of references to earlier films, returning characters and answers to long standing questions.

The film is straight up a fan service factory. It features frequent flashbacks to The Fast and the Furious that recontextualize the origin Dom has been telling us for years. It also shows younger versions of characters from the first film. Could we maybe get a prequel film that takes things back to the street racing roots of the series? The ninth film also calls back to locations, stories and origin stories we’ve been given tiny details to throughout the long-running franchise. They made sure to reward every fan who knows Dom’s story about his unnamed father’s demise by heart or how Dom saved Letty from a night-swim that turned dangerous. It also hinted at the future of the franchise by picking up plot points from Hobbs & Shaw.
