"Top Gun: Maverick" is being hailed by critics as an astonishingly good sequel to a 1980s classic – but it's not perfect, either.

Some of the things in "Top Gun: Maverick" are massive improvements over the original movie – especially the breathtaking flight scenes. Tom Cruise also proves that he hasn't lost a step as a leading man, getting into situations that showcase every one of his abilities as a daredevil and performer.

But people who have seen the movie are also criticizing it for relying a little too much on nostalgia, being vague with its villains, and doing something maybe unforgivable to a beloved character from the original movie.
