Description

Comic books operate on the conceit that superpowers will happen to people with a strong moral sense and a parental or mentor figure that gives that one guiding principle to use their powers only for good and to protect those who don’t have powers…usually from the people who got superpowers but who had terrible role models and now just want to punish the world. The Boys embodies Baron Zemo’s theory, that no matter who it is, having the power of even just a supersoldier is inherently corruptive and it takes a person of unusually high character to not abuse it. In The Boys no one gets that guiding principle and instead realizes that their power makes them almost untouchable. Add on to that the extra layer of a massive organization that has dedicated itself to projecting a set image for the superpowered beings they themselves created, it means they can do whatever they want and Vought will cover for even the social blowback from their actions. Homelander, being the most powerful, is also the most drastic example of this kind of behavior. But what are the differences between the comic book version of Homelander and the television version? The comic is broad and brutal in its satire as only Garth Ennis can be while the show gives a little more time to being an actual drama. What changes to the worst of the ‘good guys’ did they make? Let’s get into it. What part of Homelander from the comics would you like to see make it to the screen?
